Service Description

DISCOVERY & PROJECT BASED LEARNING MODULE Learners will apply their learning of fractions in a Party Planning Project. TOPICS COVERED: (i) Addition and Subtraction of Fractions (ii) Multiplication and Division of Fractions (iii) Real World Word Problems- Approach and Practice. The day wise tentative schedule is as follows: ( The actual pace may vary as per the need of the learners) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FRACTIONS PART II Day 0: Ice-Break session. Knowing each other. Setting Expectations Day 1 to Day 2: (Let’s Play with Fractions: Part-1): Quick Refresher. Introduction to the Party Planning Template ( Project Based Learning) Day 3 to Day 5: Math Lab: Fraction Addition & Subtraction: Like and Unlike Fractions. (i) What does the concept look like? Creating Mental Models beyond numbers (ii) Exploring the concept in multiple scenarios. Strengthening understanding (iii) Identify a need for an efficient system to save time and effort (iv) Discover a new approach (v) Investigation to establish relationships: Uncovering a Mathematical Process (Math Rules) Day 6: Consolidation of the process discovered. Practice for accuracy & speed. A quick test to identify the gaps and support learning Day 7: Representation of Mathematical Events in stories from own imagination and/or experience Day 8 to Day 18: Math Lab: Fraction Multiplication and Division (i) The Lab work begins with a problem from the real world, which needs to be solved (ii) What does the concept look like? Creating Mental Models beyond numbers (iii) Solution of the problem without any Mathematical Formulae or Rules, using pure logic. (iv) Investigation to establish cause and effect relationships: Uncovering a Mathematical Process (Math Rules) Day 19: Consolidation of the process discovered. Practice for accuracy & speed: A quick test to identify the gaps and support learning Day 20: Representation of Mathematical Events in stories from own imagination and/or experience Day 21 to 22: Introduction to Word Problems: The Approach Day 23: Word Problems: Practice for Accuracy: A quick test to identify the gaps and support learning. Day 24: Word Problems: Practice for Speed: A quick test to identify the gaps and support learning. Day 25: A day dedicated to Questions!
